Michigan State University (MSU) has instituted the Nnamdi Azikiwe Scholarships to pay tribute to the former Nigerian President, Nnamdi Azikiwe. President Azikiwe, a distinguished scholar and politician, was a visionary leader who invited MSU faculty to collaborate with Nigerians in establishing a land-grant model university in Eastern Nigeria. This endeavor laid the foundation for the University of Nigeria at Nsukka, which holds a significant educational legacy and marks the inception of the MSU African Studies faculty, presently consisting of around 100 scholars from various colleges and departments.
