Crawford Technologies is a growing company that values its team’s stability during economically challenging times. As a Certified Braille Transcriber, you will play a vital role in ensuring documents are accurately transcribed into Braille, following the guidelines set by the Braille Authority of North America (BANA).
Key Responsibilities:
Braille Transcription:
- Transcribe documents from various input types into contracted and uncontracted Braille following BANA guidelines.
- Transcribe a wide range of materials into Braille, including health and financial documents, manuals, communications, forms, and tests.
- Work on personal and confidential documents while adhering to security principles, such as PCI and SOC2 with Hi-Trust.
- Transcribe documents from scanned material.
- Edit scanned files, correcting misspellings, scanner malfunctions, and punctuation errors.
- Proofread and ensure the accuracy of transcribed materials.
- Develop the team’s proficiency in BANA guidelines and transcription best practices.
Alternate Format Transcription:
- Possess knowledge of alternate format rules and guidelines in compliance with industry standards and Crawford Technologies’ standards.
- Assist in transcribing documents into large print, audio, and e-text formats.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:
- Proficiency in the Duxbury Braille Translator or other transcription software, as well as office software.
- Spanish transcription skills are required.
- Transcription of foreign language materials.
- Ability to create tactile graphics according to BANA guidelines and knowledge of associated software like Corel Draw and/or Tiger.
- Strong attention to detail.
Experience, Education, and Certifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a transcriber.
- Experience in transcribing complex documents.
- Transcription of higher-level math is an asset.
- UEB technical certification (CNIB) is also an asset.
