Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter) Botanic Gardens is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Landscape Manager, a Research Associate Specialist. This hands-on role requires experienced landscape horticulturists to maintain the gardens to high horticultural standards and oversee a team of landscape professionals.
Job Description:
The Senior Landscape Manager will work closely with staff and students to maintain the botanical gardens and oversee an assistant landscape manager, student interns, and landscape contractors. This role involves maintaining plant collections, specialty gardens, and lawns while also contributing to the aesthetics and overall horticultural care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintenance of plant collections, including planting, weeding, herbicide application, pruning, and fertilizing.
- Supervising and caring for specialty garden areas such as the Children’s Garden, Pollinator Garden, Herb Garden, Tropical Garden, Rose Garden, and event gardens.
- Knowledge and application of proper horticultural care.
- Handling soil care, pruning, and planting.
- Managing common diseases, insects, weeds, and cultural problems.
- Maintaining Louisiana pesticide applicator certification for ornamentals and turf.
- Assisting with event set-up and tear-down.
- Operating grounds power equipment and installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and one to two years of gardening/horticulture experience.
- Ability to work occasional scheduled weekends.
- Physical dexterity to perform the job and the ability to work outside year-round.
- Capability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
