Job Description:
The Department of Health in Lee County is seeking candidates for an open SENIOR CLERK position. The incumbent in this role will provide administrative support to the DOH-Lee Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program and may serve clients who speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. If bilingual, the role may require performing interpreter duties or implementing the Department’s Limited English Proficiency Plan.
Client Services Responsibilities:
- Answering calls professionally and providing WIC-related information.
- Independently assessing and screening existing and potential WIC participants, verifying client status, scheduling and rescheduling client appointments, and interviewing participants for demographics, WIC income eligibility, and immunization compliance.
- Operating and navigating the FL-WiSE System, computer terminals, scanners, signature pads, card readers/pin pads.
- Providing clients with information on what to bring to WIC appointments, such as medical referrals, income documentation, immunization cards, social security cards, and other approved documents.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Collecting, documenting, and distributing messages for employees and clients.
- Assisting with ongoing nutrition education and outreach activities with the local agency.
- Conducting appointment call reminders for the Breastfeeding class.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
- Ability to organize and maintain filing systems.
- Skill in the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Working Hours:
- Daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Total hours in a workweek: 40
