Job Description:
Rymill Coonawarra, a dynamic, family-owned winery situated in the northern region of South Australia’s world-renowned Coonawarra strip, is recognized for producing wines of exceptional quality and value from well-established estate vineyards. The company has a job opening for a highly motivated individual to assume the role of Assistant Winemaker.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinating daily winemaking operations in collaboration with the Laboratory and Cellar team.
- Performing cellar and laboratory tasks as needed to ensure efficient and high-quality wine production.
- Preparing and conducting trials and wine tastings with the Winemaker to contribute to wine style and blending decisions.
- Representing the company at trade and consumer events.
- Independently monitoring and maintaining wine within specified quality standards.
- Providing a winemaker’s perspective and insights within the laboratory and cellar.
- Monitoring and managing vintage fermentations and operations.
- Assisting in coordinating external bottlings and associated logistics.
Job Requirements:
Rymill Coonawarra operates with a small team of highly skilled and dedicated staff, and they are seeking a candidate who is group-oriented, possesses strong analytical and interpretative skills, logistical acumen, and creativity. The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and characteristics:
- A degree in Oenology (or nearing completion of a relevant degree).
- Hands-on cellar experience in small to medium-sized wineries, with a minimum of 3-5 vintages.
- A strong appreciation of wine and wine tasting, along with the willingness to express opinions during tastings.
- Experience and/or knowledge of winery management systems (EzyWine) is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Experience working with cool climate grapes and premium red wines.
- Flexibility to work extended hours during the vintage season, including weekends, and occasionally travel domestically.
- Possession of an Australian forklift and driver’s license.
- Applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia.
